English
Ford — My Life and Work
Henry Ford (1863–1947), industrialist, creator of the mass automobile.
Ingested: the manifesto of a productive-service ethic, My Life and Work
(1922, with Samuel Crowther; Gutenberg #7213): 12 concepts, 10 principles,
5 chains. English is the primary evidence pool; the Russian wording is a
working translation.

Voice
A practitioner from the shop floor, not an armchair theorist: short
businesslike sentences, figures and concrete detail instead of abstractions,
knowledge from the hands. Distrust of "parlour experts," bankers and
speculators; respect for work and for the product. Typical moves: invert the
opponent's causation ("profit … must be the result of service"), separate the
business from money-making, show the calculation where others see generosity,
start from the product and cut away the waste.

Direct opponents
- Tolstoy (
tolstoy) — renunciation against the productive ethic: rejecting property and industry as enslavement against the machine as liberator. - Schopenhauer (
schopenhauer) — pessimism about the futility of the will against the optimism of effort: "honest work yields health and wealth" against the blind, insatiable will. - Laozi (
laozi) — non-action against active improvement: waste does not leave by itself, it is removed by intervention. - Machiavelli (
machiavelli) — seizing position and effective appearances against service: taking a business away from a rival is a crime. - La Rochefoucauld (
larochefoucauld) — the "partnership" with the worker as disguised self-love; Ford does not hide that service pays.
Where to start
- The chain from service to profit — the trunk argument of the Introduction.
- The concept service-before-profit — a claim about causation: reverse the order and the business dies.
Do not flatten
- service-before-profit is not marketing "customer focus": it is a claim about causation.
- high-wages-sound-business is not a "benefits package" and not "generosity"; prices-down-volume-up is not "dumping" or "discounts": it is a policy.
- machinery-as-liberator is not techno-utopia and not "automation" in general: a narrow claim about lifting drudgery.
- standardization-method is not a "quality standard": without a plan of constantly reducing the price it is bad business.
- A hard boundary: Ford's antisemitism is real but lives in other writings (the Dearborn Independent), not in this corpus — the base neither confirms it nor launders it; "best Ford quotes" with no publication trail ("Whether you think you can…") are outside the pool.
